Forenübersicht / Community / International Forum - Multilingual New comp zine on mothers, daughters and appearance

I'm putting together a comp zine about mothers who criticise their daughters' appearance (weight, looks, etc). I was inspired by seeing an article on this subject in Teen Vogue last week - so it's an issue that's definitely in the mainstream but I'm sure there is a lot more to say about it. Just the fact that I had to buy the magazine made me realise how much this issue is still affecting me, and I know it affects a lot of my female friends.
I hope other women and girls will be willing to write about their own experiences from whatever angle. The definition of "mother" and "daughter" is of course up to you and not restricted to biological mothers and daughters. It may be that you managed to find ways to deal with this problem or you may feel that it is still with you even if you mother is far away - I'm interested in all perspectives.
Even if your mother wasn't critical of your weight or looks I would welcome articles about any friends who experienced this problem or viewpoints on the problem. Pieces by mothers about how they hope to encourage their daughters' self-esteem would be especially welcome.
I can of course change names or publish your contribution anonymously if you wish.
If you're interested in contributing please comment or you can send contributions to me at kate_galactic at rocketmail.com. Thanks!
I hope to read any available books & essays on the subject so that I can provide an intro with background information so if you can recommend any please do.
I'm proposing a deadline of 31st October so please contact me before Halloween if you're interested!
Thanks
Kate (London, UK)
